Our trend researcher residing in New York gives us her February wrap-up.
“February is the depth of winter in the city, when New Yorkers walk through dreamy mounds of snow, wearing countless layers.
We snap pictures on Instagram of our snow covered world, our streets dusted in white. We visit central park at every chance to make snow angels or go ice skating.
February in New York is fashion week, when the streets begin to fill with the tall, long legged fashion set, clad in black. Downtown streets and Instagram feeds are later decorated with fashion icons and celebrities racing from runway to runway, from party to party. We catch glimpses of brightly coloured coats or accessories and admire their style but wonder – how are they wearing that in the snow? With fashion week comes market week, where fashion buyers will place their orders, curating the perfect pieces to build collections for the next winter.
February in New York is full of hope that the new spring is fast approaching. We visit fresh produce and designer markets, indulge in our favourite comfort foods, sip coffee over brunch with friends and reminisce beloved past summers. We see new season spring/summer collections released into stores with new pieces to covet. Pinterest lists are made to curate a wardrobe for the time the summer visits New York again.
