Forever New: Tell us about the design process from your perspective?
Julia: The process always takes a little longer than you would think when creating a one-off piece for someone. You need to factor in elements like the fabric and fit changes of the garment, not to mention the personal tastes of the person you're creating the piece for and what parts of their body they feel comfortable showing off. Olympia and I first started working on this piece in July this year.
What were you both inspired by for Olympia's Caulfield outfit?
The Caulfield Cup doesn't have any of the strict dress guidelines like some of the other race days so, luckily, there was no limitations in the piece. Olympia was feeling for a Spanish inspired outfit and so this is where we started out!
How did the style evolve into the final piece?
Olympia isn't afraid to make a bold fashion statement and she and I had so much fun evolving the design into the final piece. We decided to explore a two piece option for Olympia and opted for a lightly textured fabrication with an off-shoulder crop top with a beautiful twist front detail and delicate puff sleeves. The midi length is all fun with the tiered ruffle layers - a must have trend this season.
Accessories are essential for the Spring Racing Carnival - how will Olympia incorporate accessories into this look?
Olympia has opted for bold red accessories to make the whole look pop with colour - perfect to kick off Melbourne's Spring Racing Carnival.
Stay tuned on social this weekend to see Olympia's head to toe look.
