An absolute wardrobe essential, the bag completes an outfit like no other accessory..

This season, our accessories buying and design team have explored new shapes and materials to create an elevated range that we can’t wait to share. Here, we give you a little sneak peak into the inspiration and design process behind the collection.

Where do you look to for inspiration when designing?

While Paris, New York, Milan & London fashion weeks always play a large part in the range for the upcoming season, this collection was largely inspired by our recent buying trip to Tokyo. We recently spent a weekend in Tokyo and were so excited by the way the women in Japan wear their accessories – they are so elegant and classic yet always have a slightly modern edge. This inspiration really shaped the entire collection.

How do the new bags arriving in August differ to our past collections?

We have really started to focus on how and where our customer wears her bag. We want to provide our customer with something functional – think card slots in clutches, extra pockets on our tote bags and easy-to-wear colour palettes, but also something stylish and modern with beautiful details and quality materials. We have also worked very closely with our apparel and footwear teams to ensure that our bags complement their ranges so that our customer can feel put together in a complete, considered outfit.

What are the top 3 trends you are seeing in bags this upcoming spring/summer?

1. Interchangeable bag straps

2. Embroidery detailing

3. Easy to wear zip top pouches

Which is your favourite piece from the range?

For weekdays, we love the quilted backpack and matching work tote that doubles as a laptop bag. We love our Florence Cross Body Bag for an everyday look that takes you from brunch to bar. Finally, our wear-anywhere go-to has to be the Louisa Small Bag.

Tell us a little bit more about the process that goes into designing the collection?

We start with researching trends seen on the catwalks, sidewalks and our buying trips. From here, our design team start to sketch. Once we’re happy with the sketches, we will send the designs off to be made into development samples. The sample and review stages can take a few months until we get the design exactly right. Once we’re happy with the ranges built, we place the orders. From here, it is just about managing samples with the wider business including the marketing and digital teams and ensuring the range is delivered on time into our warehouse for distribution to our stores.
